One Ride, Many Stories - My Solo Ride to Trimbakeshwar

A Journey with Metgezel It had been a long time since I embarked on a solo bike trip with "Metgezel," my trusty Bajaj Avenger Cruiser. The name Metgezel —Dutch for "companion"—perfectly captures the bond between a rider and their bike.  The day of the ride was special—it was Guru Nanak Jayanti and Kartik Purnima, although I only learned about their significance after reaching Trimbakeshwar. But before diving into the spiritual aspect, let me take you through the adventure.   The Day Before the Ride Every biker knows a long ride isn’t just about waking up and hitting the road. It’s a ritual to get ready with the riding gear—jacket, gloves, helmet, knee pads, and shoes—felt like a warrior's armour. My daughter, amused by my preparations, asked, “Pappa, whose wedding are you going to?” She missed the earlier scene where I was lovingly cleaning Metgezel!   The Departure: Mumbai to Jawhar Winter mornings make it tempting to stay in bed, but excitement nudged me u...

A Father-Daughter Adventure on Two Wheels

It’s a hot summer in Mumbai this year, with the heat wave clocking the temperature to 45 degrees Celsius. However, the promise of an adventure on a long weekend made the heat more bearable. On 20th May 2024, Election Day in Mumbai, we had to fulfil our civic duty by voting, so we decided to escape the city for a short ride on Sunday, 19 th May 2024. Our destination was Sinchian Lake, 74 km away. This was going to be a special trip, as it was my daughter Heer’s first long ride on a motorcycle with me without her mother. Gearing Up All geared up with riding jackets, helmets, elbow guards, knee guards, and gloves, we left at 4:00 p.m. to avoid the harshest heat. The Google map showed 74 km and 1hr 47 mins to Sinchian Lake in Maharashtra's Saphale, Palghar district. My only concern was Heer may feel sleepy during the ride, so we carried a Bluetooth speaker since she loves music. The Journey Begins   The journey began, and Heer was filled with excitement. We cruised at a comforta...

Shadows of Love: Photographing the Timeless Taj Mahal

In December, I went on a family holiday to Mathura and Vrindavan. I got a few hours of free time and the driver suggested Agra, which was not on our itinerary. Every visit to this historical place Agra is complete with witnessing the breathtaking beauty of the Taj Mahal. This trip held special significance as it marked the first time my daughter laid eyes on this architectural masterpiece. As someone with a deep passion for photography, I couldn't resist capturing the essence of this iconic structure through my lens. A Glimpse into History: The Taj Mahal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, epitomises love and architectural brilliance. Commissioned in 1632 by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal, the Taj Mahal took over 20 years to complete. Its intricate design, combining Persian, Islamic, and Indian architectural styles, has made it one of the world's most recognizable and celebrated structures. Ahh, I know you are here to check my clicks, aren...

The Road Trip to Kutch, Gujarat

When boys are planning a road trip, the first image that comes to mind is often from the movie "Dil Chahta Hai." Ahh,   that’s for the bachelors. When married men plan a trip, it's more like "Biwi Kya Chahti Hai." 😉 If you're married, you've probably been in the same boat as we three were when we were planning our epic road trip to Kutch. Here's a photo of us three, posing at Khari Bet - from left to right: Brijesh, Nilay and Nikhil. We intentionally chose weekdays for our adventure to ensure empty roads and fewer crowds at the places we intended to visit. The journey began from Mumbai on a sunny Monday morning, with my trusty companion, a Hyundai i20. Day 1: From Mumbai to Samakhiali  We departed from Mumbai early in the morning, embarking on a drive of over 700 km, until we reached Samakhiali. Our overnight stay was at a Jain Temple, which, as it turned out, was a great choice for a comfortable rest stop. If you're planning to stay en ro...
